Learning principles

The Repton curriculum consists of two distinct, but complementary strands, both of which seek to promote individual excellence and achievement. There is, firstly, the examined curriculum, the priority in the prep Department and the Senior School, where Repton aims for effectiveness in preparing pupils for their respective public and entrance examinations. Secondly, Repton aims to broaden the intellectual horizons of all pupils through non-examined courses. In this way Repton encourages choice and a diversity of interest. Repton follows a British independent school curriculum which incorporates elements of the English national curriculum but which allows Repton's highly skilled teachers to develop academic breadth appropriate for an independent school in an international environment. The whole course of study through the school is designed to develop pupils as independent and lifelong learners as well as encouraging a spirit of intellectual curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge. This is achieved not only by what is studied in lessons but by formal prep time and links between academic and co-curricular opportunities.

Admission process

Repton is an academically selective school and all children who are considered for a place are assessed. The intention of the assessment process is to evaluate a child’s potential for future success. Repton looks for potential, not just specific to particular activities, but also in behaviour, attitude and character. The assessment process is carefully designed to be a fair measure of a child’s ability in a number of areas. All assessments are age appropriate.

Admission and language criteria

Repton uses paper based tests and Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT) to assist in the selection process. All children applying for Y7 onwards take CATs which are computer based. All Junior School applicants are given age appropriate assessments based on work our current pupils undertake.
