Key Facts

Welcome

Al Diyafah High School was founded 34 years ago, in September 1982, by Late Mrs. Winnie D’Cunha. It started as a Nursery with only 2 children in a small villa located on Al Diyafah Street, in Dubai. That’s how it got its name. To accommodate the growing numbers, the school moved to a new campus in 2001, where it is presently located. The students are offered a wide range of subjects from the Science, Commerce and Humanities streams. The primary section has progressed to a very competent senior school and as the vision continues to take flight, it now moves on to greater heights. The school’s objective is best expressed through its mission statement of attempting to create competent, caring and confident students through its holistic based education. The students actively support social issues like environment, literacy, relief and endeavor to become leaders in their own right. Such an all-rounded system of education has helped Diyafah produce an ever- increasing list of alumni who have gained admissions in several Universities in Canada, USA, Australia and the sub-continent.

Learning principles

The school's curriculum is modelled on the Early Years Foundation Stage in the FS1 and FS2 section. The adapted English National Curriculum is applied in the Primary and Middle school years. From Years 11 – 13, the Senior Phase, the students are prepared for the internationally recognised qualifications from the University of Cambridge and Edexcel at the IGCSE, AS and A Level. In addition to this, the exclusive Personal Enrichment programme together with the strong Social Responsibility initiatives, the curriculum design and the outstanding links with the parent community, have culminated in the school creating global citizens of the 21st Century.

Student Support

Support for special learning needs

Yes

The Learning Support Programme supports the individual educational needs of all students. Students experiencing difficulties in accessing the curriculum and learning are referred by teachers to the Student Services Team. The counsellor, special educator, teachers and parents develop an individual education plan together based upon their observations and results of the psycho-educational assessment administered by external professionals. This team ensures that students receive the intervention and accommodations they need. The student's participation and performance in weekly and term exams act as indicators of progress. Student progress is also tracked based on their achievement of the "I CAN" targets. The individual educational plan is then reviewed to set new goals. Based on the learning needs of the referred student, in-class and one-to-one intervention sessions are provided by the counsellor, special educator and Learning Support Assistant (LSA). The LSAs work either with individual students or small groups of students to provide intervention strategies to be implemented within the classroom. Shadow teacher facility is also permitted.

Support for gifted and talented students

Yes

ADHS also meets the unique educational needs of students through its gifted and talented services. ADHS recognizes that learners thrive best in an environment that challenges and nurtures individual strength. Some learners have academic skills, cognitive abilities, leadership abilities and creative talents that differ in degree and dimension from their peers; The CAT4 online assessment is administered to identify the gifted students. ADHS challenges the gifted and talented students through its acceleration and enrichment programme. This includes subject acceleration and opportunities to lead the literacy, sports, music etc. clubs in school. The identified students represent the school in various events and competitions such as ADPIQ, Dubai Scholars Cup, write for the school newsletter, concert scripts and more. Students are also encouraged to sign up for the Massive Open Online Courses and take additional IGCSE subjects.
